Shining a light through darkness

Suanne Lowery is the owner of a boutique health and fitness business in Brisbane and is a Fitness Australia registered Exercise Professional and Accredited Nutritionist. Suanne strives to help her community and has created Freedom Events to help those who have suffered from Domestic Violence.  Suanne is taking part in the 2018 Dancing CEO competition where she will endeavour to raise over $15,000 to support the Women's Legal Service. The theme of all the events is “Freedom” and it focusses on the promotion of positive mental health through eating well, exercising and positive thinking, particularly for those who’ve suffered domestic violence.  Statistics show that 18% of depression and 17% of anxiety experienced by women is a result of domestic violence. Across the events, the concept of health, nutrition and exercise are used to heal the mind, body and soul.

An amazing team

Women’s Legal Service provides free legal and welfare help to Queensland women and their children who experience domestic violence. Last year alone they provided support to over 11,000 women and with them 17,000 children affected by violence. However, resource constraints mean that 50% of calls for help continue to go unanswered.
